SHADOW TRAILERS INFORMATION
We made the huge mistake of buying a Shadow Horse Float / Trailer. It was a stock float 3 horse angle load.
It was unfit for purpose and was illegal to tow empty. It certainly couldn't carry any horses. There were MAJOR design faults and many smaller faults. The build was so poor, rust, huge gaps, latches you couldn't use, hopeless jockey wheel you had to jack the float on and off, way to high for a step up and chains and reflectors totally non compliant with Australian Standards.
We took Shadow Trailers to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal and won.
We have been awarded a full refund plus costs but we have not been paid.
Shadow Trailers has taken the float and kept our money. They are a shonky company that should be deregistered.
Save yourselves the heartbreak and expense and avoid them
It has been a huge disaster from the first and a huge waste of money and time.
Please don't take our word for it, please have a look at :
-Two Expert Engineer Reports,
-The NCAT consumer tribunal findings in our favour ,and
-The RTA / RMS FAILURE of road registration certificate.
I have three additional major concerns in addition to the obvious
1 - The RTA/ RMS has never shown any interest in the problem.
Both this trailer and another i know of that is also illegal to tow empty , were given a blue slip by a RMS station on the Central Coast. Despite my giving all necessary information to the RMS, over 5 visits to the RMS and many calls including to the heavy vehicle head office at Parkes, i cannot get anyone to listen or investigate. Someone will be hurt possibly even be killed. The down weight on the tow bar was easily sufficient to snap it off and with incorrectly welded chains the nearly two tonne trailer would have been loose and a HUGE risk to anyone nearby. Even though the trailer FAILED road registration, was illegal to tow and shadow trailers had all these documents, they collected the trailer with a ute, not a flat bed truck and towed an unregistered unsafe float without a permit to move it.
2 - one of the non compliance issues was there was no vin/ chassis plate properly affixed to the trailer. It was a peeling off sticker. This means the float is not able to be identified by its engraved welded plate so it can be re-birthed and resold by this company who, believe me will do it despite knowing it is not legal to tow.
THE USA SHADOW PARENT COMPANY is aware of the problem. I notified them in an email and have heard nothing at all. They have however taken down the banners on their website stating they exported trailers to Australia that were suitable for Australian conditions and complied with Australian regulations !!!!!!!.
3 - This company has threatened, on record, in the NCAT tribunal hearing that they will declare bankruptcy and not pay us what we are owed.
This country needs to stop letting people get away with this crap.
I know the people involved in Shadow trailers have already done this with Central Coast Imports going insolvent and i believe there are others.
Below are the reports, feel free to contact me if you require any further information.
